STANDING PILLARS, RAF BEMPTON

Concrete pillars on the cliff top at Bempton which are part of the remaining surface structures of the RAF Station built in the 1950s.

These surreal pillars standing in a field at Bempton give a sinister 'Cold War' atmosphere to the area and seem incongruous in their situation. They remind me of ancient standing stones at Stonehenge and Avebury where their purpose is uncertain and mysterious.
